The first time I heard about this game was years ago when it came out. I watched the trailer, thought it looked kinda interesting, and forgot about it. Until a few weeks ago… I stumbled upon a video essay about the game. After the first 5 minutes, I decided to turn it off and give the game a try myself, as the premise alone hooked me. The essay described it as “a horror game where you might be the actual monster.”
Trepang² is a very fast first-person action shooter that lures you in with a gory power fantasy at first. I can't even really explain what captured my interest as much as it did. But somehow, the story captivates me. At the time of writing this, I am about halfway through the game, and I'm still wondering why I have all the powers that I do, and what is happening in this world. I'm wondering if I am the good guy in this story, as what you are doing as a player to these enemies is quite brutal. But on the other hand... the enemies are not all that much better, so you don't feel as bad when you find out about another horrid abomination they created. As of now, everything in this game is a mystery.
